THE
BEST
OF
BOTH
WORLDS

As an English native speaker who grew up in Germany, I feel at home in both languages and in both cultures. This means that when I translate a text, I find the right words and figures of speech in both languages. I can also tell when a text needs adapting to fit the cultural requirements of either country. This is complemented by a sound professional foundation gained during my 20 years of professional experience in the economic sector and as a freelance translator.

My wide range of services includes idiomatic translations of press releases and company websites, certified translations of official documents such as birth certificates as well as proof-reading theses and publications in English.

CAREER

After completing my vocational training as a Certified Assistant for Foreign Languages (staatlich geprüfte kaufmännische Assistentin Fremdsprachen), I worked as a personal assistant in various companies from 1997 to 2017. One of these companies was BP Europa SE, where I was the PA to the Marketing Manager from 2001 to 2007. During this period, I gathered valuable experience in marketing and public relations before being promoted to executive assistant in 2008. In this role, I translated German presentations, publications and speeches for my English-speaking executive.

In parallel, I worked as a part-time freelance translator, translating anything from recipes and websites for young companies to publications and lectures in the field of media studies. In 2015, I made things official and became a certified translator for English and German.

In 2018, after 20 years in the economic sector, I decided to take my career in a new direction and joined Intermundos GmbH in Bochum as a translator. In March 2019, I left the company to work as a full-time freelancer. I was authorised by Hamm Higher Regional Court in July 2019.

I am a member of the BDÜ (Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators).

TRANSLATION

Whether you need a translation of your CV, lecture, press release or website, my goal is to provide you with a finished product that doesn’t sound like a translation at all. Among other things, this means that I choose the English equivalent of any idioms or figures of speech in your text and check that intercultural requirements are met. All to make sure that in the end, you get a text that sounds as if it were written in English from the start.
I am happy to prepare translations at short notice on request.
I use the following CAT tools:
• SDL Trados Studio 2017
• Across
• MemoQ

… and have gathered experience in the following fields:
• Energy generation
• Consumer and luxury goods
• Trade fairs
• Media studies and cultural sciences
• Tourism
• Official and court documents
… and many more

If you have a concrete project, feel free to contact me! I am happy to put together an individual offer tailored to your needs.

PROOF-READING

From theses and papers to publications and lectures: Sometimes, there are just no two ways about it, and you have to write a text in English yourself. And especially when the stakes are high, that text needs to be perfect.

Seit 2006 lektoriere ich regelmäßig sowohl kürzere Texte als auch längere, wie z. B. Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten.

I first started proof-reading in 2006. Since then, I have regularly helped clients perfect their texts, from short articles to bachelor and master theses.

OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS AND CERTIFICATES

As an authorised translator for English, I am able to translate official documents and certificates and add my attestation. In Germany, this is known as “beglaubigen”; the translations are known as “beglaubigte Übersetzungen”. These are usually required in dealings with courts and official authorities. I provide certified translations of most official documents and certificates, from birth certificates and residence permits to diplomas and employer references.
